A workgroup is forming to make sure Michigan’s unemployed aren’t wrongfully accused of fraud.
The state’s auditor general recently found that between October 20-13 and August 20-15, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency wrongly accused more than 20-thousand people of unemployment fraud.
Now a bipartisan workgroup spearheaded by Republican Representative Joseph Graves is going to look into what needs to be fixed in the agency.
“This isn’t working for the taxpayers. So we need to better understand what can they as a department do to make it work better for the taxpayers.”
The state has so far reversed tens of thousands of computer-based accusations of fraud and refunded claimants over 5-(m) million dollars.
