Detroit students graduating from a high school within its city limits with a 3.0 grade point average and a 21 on the ACT receive free tuition to a four-year college through the Detroit Promise.
Grand Valley State University makes it a dozen state universities partnering with the Detroit Regional Chamber and Michigan Education Excellence Foundation on this effort.
Grand Valley State University President, Thomas Haas, “We want to make sure that we provided this opportunity so this talent stays right here in Michigan. Right here in Detroit because we do know that about 36 percent of our students are coming from southeast (Michigan). We want to retain that talent. This provides the entry point. We’re going to provide them opportunity. We want them to stay right here.” F
