The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has awarded three grants for river habitat improvement projects.
The nonprofit group Huron Pines will receive $58,300 to complete the removal of Buhl Dam on the Pine River, which will boost water quality and fish movement.
The Mason-Griffith Founders Chapter of Trout Unlimited will get $30,490 to collect information that will help generate a priority list for habitat improvements on the Au Sable and Manistee rivers.
A grant of $91,826 to the DNR's Fisheries Division will pay to replace equipment used to manage the Muskegon Walleye Pond, which provides fingerling walleye that are stocked into the Muskegon River.
The money comes from the Habitat Improvement Account, funded by Consumers Energy under a relicensing agreement for the company's hydropower projects on several rivers.
