Numbers are showing that July was the busiest passenger month in the history of the Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids.

Airport officials say Tuesday that passenger numbers were nearly 1.7 percent up over July 2015.

They say 238,237 people flew into and out of the western Michigan airport last month. The 234,282 passengers in July 2015 had been the previous monthly high.

More than 1.5 million passengers had gone through the airport through this July.

Gerald R. Ford International Airport Authority Acting President and Chief Executive Phil Johnson says airlines are recognizing the growth and that the airport works with them to add seats and flights.
