Ahead of Michigan campaign stops this week by Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, a visit by Democratic VP candidate Tim Kaine drew hundreds in Grand Rapids.
Kaine’s Friday campaign stop was part of a weeklong tour of several states.
The visit additionally kicked off a weekend voter registration push across Michigan by Clinton supporters.
The Virginia senator’s Grand Rapids speech emphasized Clinton’s commitment to jobs and the economy.
He also took multiple swings at Republican nominee Trump.
"We’ve been talking about jobs. Donald Trump has been shadowboxing with every last person, and not focused on the issue that matters most to Americans right now."
Kaine asked the audience if they want a 'you’re hired' or a 'you’re fired' President – the latter a play on Trump’s former role in television show The Apprentice.
Other speakers at the Friday rally included U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow and U.S. Congressman Dan Kildee.
Several small groups of pro-Bernie and anti-trade agreement supporters rallied outside the event.
Kaine was in Grand Rapids promoting a new campaign office in the city.
Other stops last week included cities in Wisconsin, Florida and North Carolina.
Trump is in Michigan on Monday for a speech at the Detroit Economic Club. Clinton will be in Michigan on Thursday.
GOP VP candidate Mike Pence also made a recent appearance in west Michigan.
The Indiana governor held a rally at the Deltaplex at the end of July.
