Mott Foundation gives $5M to help Flint amid water crisis

The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation is giving $5 million as part of efforts to help Flint amid the city's crisis with lead-tainted water.

The grant announced Monday is for the Flint Child Health and Development Fund and is part of an earlier-announced $100 million, 5-year commitment. It will provide a dollar-for-dollar match on up to $5 million in donations made to the fund through Dec. 31.

The grant comes as the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, a longtime Flint-based organization founded by an automotive pioneer, announced that it has surpassed $3 billion in total grants since its start in 1926. Its 90th anniversary was Sunday.

The Flint Child Health and Development Fund aims to provide support over the next 20 years to help area children overcome the effects of lead exposure.
