Miss Michigan's platform to highlight diversity, immigration

Arianna Quan | itsariannaquan.com

The newly crowned Miss Michigan says she plans to use her role to advocate for her platform of immigration and citizenship education.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that Arianna Quan, a Bloomfield Hills resident, was born in China and moved to Detroit when she was six years old.

Quan became a naturalized citizen when she was 14.

Quan said it's important for naturalized citizens and immigrants to speak about their experiences in the U.S., and for diversity to be embraced.

The 23-year-old is a student at Detroit's College for Creative Studies and she hopes to become a lead designer at an automotive company.

Quan was chosen Saturday to compete in the Miss America pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September.
