COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Federal regulators say they have reached a settlement with owners of the Palisades nuclear power plant in southwestern Michigan stemming from a leak five years ago.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced Monday Entergy Corp. will deal with failures in handling a leak from the safety injection refueling water tank into the plant's control room.
The commission says Entergy fixed immediate concerns as well as "safety culture issues," but this order ensures the company will do more to recognize "root causes" of the incident and improve its public communication.
Regulators say in the agreement that plant workers committed willful violations.
Entergy disagrees, arguing those violations stemmed from "deficiencies in the organizational safety culture" during that time.
The plant is in Van Buren County's Covert Township on the shore of Lake Michigan.
