Michigan officials have updated rules on hunting coyotes and other furbearing animals.
The state Natural Resources Commission approved the changes this month during a meeting in Lansing.
Coyote hunting is now allowed year-round in Michigan. It previously was prohibited between mid-April and mid-July, the period when the animals breed and raise their offspring.
The rules prohibit use of dogs to hunt coyotes from April 16 through July 7.
Additionally, nighttime hunting season dates now match the daytime hunting season dates by species. Coyote and opossum hunting are open year-round. Raccoon hunting season is Oct. 1 through Jan. 31, and fox hunting runs from Oct. 15 through March 1.
The revisions deal only with hunting. Trapping season dates and regulations are unchanged.
