If you’re looking for a summer job or perhaps a more permanent position, The Salvation Army Kroc Center might be the place for you.  Officials are hoping to get the word out about their first and upcoming job fair.

“Our mantra this year is together; we want to be together in community. We want to put the community in community center, so we want to put the love of being with people, of serving people because that’s what we’re all about.”

Jon Shaner is the marketing director for the Salvation Army Grand Rapids Kroc Center.  He says they’re looking to connect with the community at their first job fair since opening the center in 2010.  They have a number of positions that need to be filled.

“It can be anybody or everybody, obviously some of the summer time positions, like day camp counselors will appeal to college students home for summer; But we have other positions, in our welcome center and while they may start in the summer, they can continue year round.”

Shaner says in many cases they offer more than just a job.  It’s about teaching life skills.

“Employment at the Kroc Center is another important thing in our community to help teach those job skills, to help teach those customer service skills, so we’re really hoping to give, whether its teens,  college students or adults, just some of those skills to maybe go on to another job.”

Shaner says the job fair will be held Wednesday, May 4th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  More information can be found at GRKrocCenter.org.

They encourage applicants to bring resumes and references if you have them.
