KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - Western Michigan University says room and board rates will rise 3.5 percent for the 2016-17 academic year. The Kalamazoo Gazette reports the school's Board of Trustees approved the increase Thursday. The new rates will mean a student living in a traditional residence hall and selecting a 15-meal plan will pay $315 more for the full academic year. The annual cost for room and board will be $9,326 starting this fall. Rates for all residence halls with varying food plans are posted online. The school operated 22 residence halls, seven dining facilities, six cafes and four apartment-style complexes this academic year. This fall, Stadium Drive Apartments will re-open. The new Valley Dining Center also is set to open, featuring nine different food venues.
