More than $1.6 million is being made available to help fix up crumbling brickwork at a low-income housing development in southwestern Michigan.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development this week announced the funding for the St. Joseph Housing Commission.
The money will support improvements at Lake View Terrace, a 15-story high-rise with 107 units serving low-income elderly and disabled individuals.
HUD says the brickwork masonry is in a distressed condition caused by brick expansion under moist conditions.
The money is from HUD's Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program, which supports public housing authorities as they address critical needs resulting from emergencies that pose an immediate threat to property or the life, health or safety of residents.
