Muskegon veterans museum asks public to help with repairs

A veterans museum housed inside of a WWII-era warship moored at a Muskegon dock is seeking handy volunteers to help with repairs.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that the USS LST 393 Veterans Museum at the Mart Dock is hosting a three-day volunteer fixup weekend from Friday to Sunday.

Though the ship always requires routine maintenance, it's badly in need of repairs after it suffered damage in a windstorm in December.

Unexpected movement caused by winds gusts of up to 61 miles per hour caused damaged to the ship's walkways, plumbing, railings and paint job.

The museum is trying to recruit volunteers who are skilled in welding, landscaping, painting, general cleanup, carpentry and metal working.

Volunteers will be provided with equipment, food and a place to sleep.
