The mayor of Flint says an initiative to replace service lines as the city faces a crisis with lead-tainted water hasn't moved as quickly as first hoped.
The first pipe replacement under Mayor Karen Weaver's Fast Start initiative was done March 4.
A news release says the initiative had replaced lead-tainted lines at 14 homes as of Thursday, and that work on three homes would be rescheduled.
The release says crews plan to replace service lines at five homes Friday, and the first phase's final 10 homes are scheduled to be worked on over the next week.
Weaver said in the release that the initiative is being improved as more is learned from pipe replacements.
She said funding from the state and federal governments will be needed to remove every lead-tainted pipe in the city.
