Michigan State University has received $4.4 million as part of effort to tackle hunger and poverty and improve nutrition in the African nation of Mali.
The East Lansing school announced Monday the money from the U.S. Agency for International Development will boost efforts at the Food Security Policy Innovation Lab. That venture, launched at Michigan State three years ago with a USAID grant, leads a project called the Mali Food Security Policy Research Program.
Researchers say they are working on issues affecting Malian farmers with national institutes in the country. The program works on farm productivity and gender, trade and agri-business investment.
Michigan State's innovation lab also has received grants for similar projects in Malawi, Senegal and Burma.
