The Michigan Legislature has approved $48.7 million in emergency funding to keep Detroit's ailing school district open the rest of the school year.
The House voted 104-4 for the budget bill Thursday, hours after it cleared the Senate on a 29-7 vote.
Lawmakers faced a deadline to act on the final day before their spring break.
The district's state-appointed manager says without the aid, it will be unable to pay employees for work they do after April 8.
The $48.7 million is a stopgap while Republican Gov. Rick Snyder presses legislators to enact a larger restructuring plan to split the district and pay off massive operating debt over a decade.
