Authorities identify man killed when tree falls on excavator

Authorities have released the name of a 62-year-old man who died after a large tree fell on an excavator he was operating in southwestern Michigan.

The Herald-Palladium of St. Joseph reports that David Strey of Paw Paw was part of a crew working Tuesday in Berrien County's Benton Township when the tree fell, crushing the cab of the excavator and pinning him inside.

The work was taking place near a subdivision.

Authorities say Strey was using the excavator to remove a large tree at a construction site.
