University of Michigan researchers have started a $9.2 million effort to combat a bug that can take hold in the gut after antibiotics kill off other bacteria.
The school announced Wednesday a five-year effort funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health that's part of a broader fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The funding for the university will be used to accelerate research into C-diff, the Clostridium difficile bacteria that causes severe diarrhea.
As part of the work, they'll use lab and patient data to create computer models that will help them understand the bug and predict how it works.
