Police say they've raided several Detroit-area homes as part of a multi-year investigation into a drug trafficking ring extending to northern Michigan.

WWJ-AM reports state police are part of a multi-jurisdictional task force participating Wednesday in "Operation Sweetie."

Lt. Mike Shaw says a woman described as the "main suspect" was taken into custody at a home in Harper Woods along with two other people at the home.

Shaw says marijuana, heroin and cocaine were found along with evidence of drug trafficking.

Shaw says other homes and Traverse City-area suspects were targeted.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports the operation stems from a Traverse Narcotics Team investigation.

Missaukee County Sheriff Jim Bosscher of the Traverse Narcotics Team was in the Detroit area for the raids.

He says drugs are "poisoning our communities."
