Man sentenced for slayings of ex-girlfriend, 2 children

A 33-year-old Michigan man will spend at least 55 years in prison in the slayings of a former girlfriend and two of her children.

Corey LaValley was sentenced Monday in Allegan County Circuit Court.

LaValley pleaded no contest in January to three counts of second-degree murder.

The bodies of 33-year-old Debra Sheppard; her 12-year-old daughter, Emma McComber; and 10-year-old son, Corey LaValley Jr. were found shot to death March 10, 2015 in their Dorr Township trailer home, southwest of Grand Rapids. Corey LaValley Jr. was LaValley's and Sheppard's son.

The trailer was set on fire after they were slain. LaValley was arrested 65 miles away in Eaton County.
