Gilda's Club Offers Grief Support Following Shooting Deaths

Gilda's Club

Six people are dead following the tragic shooting rampage in Kalamazoo on Saturday.  The suspect, Jason Dalton is to be arraigned on murder charges.  Meantime, this incident has sent shock waves throughout West Michigan and has left families, friends and entire communities grieving. Gilda’s Club of West Michigan is offering help to those in need.

“And our hearts go out to those in Kalamazoo impacted by this tragedy.”

Lindsay Jousma, is a social worker and program manager at Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids.  Following the events in Kalamazoo, Jousma says they’re on standby  to help, offering free services to those in need.

“It’s such a tragedy and it can be out of our greatest pain that sometimes that can be what connects us as a community.

Jousma says Gilda’s Club is of course known for helping those dealing with cancer, or those who’ve lost loved ones to cancer, but she says they are here to help, with trained personnel for all those who are grieving, in all circumstances.  And she says, with so many tragic things happening in society it’s helpful for the community to come together and support each other.

“And  this discussion of grief and loss and the fact that sad things do happen can really connect us as human beings as a community so we really encourage the public to seek out resources, expressing their feelings, with someone they trust, family, neighbors, Gilda’s Club.”

If you are need of help with grief, dealing with the tragic shootings or grief of any nature, Lindsay says you can call Gilda’s Club at 616-453-8300.
