DEQ official fired for not cooperating with Flint inquiry

A top official with the state Department of Environmental Quality has been fired as part of the fallout of the Flint water crisis.

Water quality chief Liane Shekter-Smith was fired just hours after a member of a state task force complained about foot dragging in some agencies when it comes to sharing information. Flint pediatrician Lawrence Reynolds said getting information can be –quote- “like pulling teeth.”

Governor Snyder addressed the task force that’s looking into what went wrong.

“We have limited resources and we want to make them count the most.”

This new development comes as the governor faces questions about when he and top members of his administration were made aware of an outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease in and around Flint.
