Three candidates have been named as finalists for an open Grand Rapids City Commission seat.

Retired Grand Rapids Police Department Detective Terrence McGee, Well House CEO Tamara VandenBerg and Joe Jones, Grand Rapids Urban League CEO, were announced by city officials on Tuesday evening.

The candidates will next participate in a 7 p.m. public forum and panel on Monday, Feb. 1, at the GRPS University building on Fuller Ave. NE.

Eleven candidates applied for the open Second Ward seat.

It became vacant after former commissioner Rosalynn Bliss was elected the city's mayor.

All 11 candidates received public interviews on Tuesday, January 26.
