Traverse City considers 2-year Cherry Festival contract

Traverse City officials are reviewing a two-year contract with the National Cherry Festival that covers fees as wells as the possibility of an extra day of air shows.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports

city staff negotiated the agreement with festival officials, a deal similar to 2015's contract.

Major changes include extending the contract to two years, the addition of an extra day for the U.S. Navy Blue Angles' air show and the return of the Heritage Parade for both years. Commissioners are expected to consider the contract during a Tuesday night meeting.

Trevor Tkach, the Cherry Festival's executive director, says the partnership between the festival and the city "is extremely beneficial for both parties."

The event is a summer highlight for Traverse City, a popular northern Michigan tourist destination.
