Consumers Energy announces tours at B.C. Cobb Plant

Limited guided tours will be offered at the coal-fired B.C. Cobb Plant in Muskegon.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that Consumers Energy announced the free, Jan. 9 tours at the facility which is slated to close April 15.

Trolleys will take visitors from the former Masonic Temple Building in Muskegon to the plant.

The plant is on the shore of Muskegon Lake and has been generating electricity since 1948.

Demolition for much of the facility could take place by the end of 2018.

B.C. Cobb received its final load of coal in November.
