House Democratic Leader: Don’t tap School Aid Fund for Detroit schools

The state Legislature has wrapped up its work for 2015 and lawmakers are setting their agendas for next year.

Legislation to help turn around Detroit Public Schools will be a top priority.

Still, no bills have been introduced. And there seems to be no deal between the state House, Senate, and the governor.

But as part of House Democrats’ opening bid, Minority Leader Tim Greimel says the state should not tap the School Aid Fund to help pay down D-P-S’ crushing debt.

“We don’t want to see that done at the expense of other school districts in this state.”

Governor Snyder says he doesn’t expect any district to see cuts under his plan.
