Michigan Department of Corrections seeks new slogan

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a new slogan to better reflect its mission of prisoner rehabilitation.

About 300 corrections workers submitted 550 suggestions for the new slogan. Now the department wants the public to help select a winner out of a pool of 10 finalists.

Department spokesman Chris Gautz tells The Detroit News that some corrections officers didn't like the old motto, "help make things right," because it sounded like the workers were a part of what was wrong.

Corrections officials decided it was time to find a new slogan after Heidi Washington took over as director of the department in May.

An online poll will be open until Jan. 8 and the winning slogan will be announced later that month.
