A 7-year-old student was struck by a car on Tuesday morning while crossing a crosswalk near a Grand Rapids school.

The Grand Rapids Police Department says the vehicle drove through the crosswalk at about 8 a.m. near Burton Elementary School as the girl attempted to catch up to a group of students ahead of her.

Her head was struck by the vehicle’s driver’s side mirror.

The student was alert at the scene.

She was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the driver was cited for the incident.
