Groups that want two oil pipelines removed from the Straits of Mackinac are trying to generate public support by showing a film about the issue this week in three Michigan cities.
"Oil and Water" will be shown Monday in Charlevoix, Tuesday in Kalamazoo and Wednesday in Ann Arbor.
The 20-minute film was produced by Spencer Chumbley, a journalist and filmmaker based in Washington, D.C.
The twin pipes that run across the bottom of the straits are part of a line that originates in North Dakota and carries nearly 23 million gallons of oil daily. Enbridge Energy Partners LP owns the pipes and says they're in good shape.
Environmentalists say the 62-old lines could cause catastrophic damage to Lakes Huron and Michigan if they rupture.
