The University of Michigan says its freshman enrollment is more diverse for fall 2015 when compared with classes over the previous decade.
The school announced Monday enrollment at its Ann Arbor campus totals 43,651, up 26 from a year ago.
Undergraduate enrollment of 28,312 includes a freshman class of 6,071, down 434. Among the freshman class, underrepresented minority students comprise 12.8 percent of the incoming class, the largest percentage since 2005 when it was 13.8 percent.
Last fall, underrepresented minorities including black, Hispanic and Native American students made up 10 percent.
The U.S. Supreme Court in 2014 said Michigan voters had the right to change their state constitution in 2006 to prohibit public colleges and universities from taking account of race, known as affirmative action, in admissions decisions.
