Doctors at a Detroit hospital have performed a heart procedure on 89-year-old former U.S. Rep. John Dingell, the longest-serving member of Congress in U.S. history.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell says an angiogram was done Wednesday and doctors determined her husband did not suffer a heart attack. He went into the hospital on Monday.
A second procedure will be performed Friday.
The Democrat served 59 years in Congress, after being elected in 1955 to fill the House seat vacated by his father. His wife was elected to his Detroit-area seat after he decided to retire last year.
John Dingell tweeted Wednesday that "doctors are recommending I do all I can to try to forget the end of that Lions game."
Detroit lost Monday night to Seattle.
