Autistic children are receiving specialized therapy and lessons at Michigan State University's Child Development Laboratories' new Early Learning Institute.
The Lansing State Journal reports
that a half-dozen 3- and 4-year-olds are the first enrollees taught by a dozen behavior technicians and counselors.
The institute was started to fill in gaps in education and therapy before an autistic child gets to kindergarten.
The new program was made possible through a $50,000 donation from MSU graduates Mike and Kathy Bosco. Additional financial help came from the Human Development and Family Studies program. Almost $65,000 has been spent so far to renovate the classroom and observational spaces.
