A 4-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a pickup while crossing a western Michigan road.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the boy was riding a small scooter in Greenville Monday morning when he was struck by a pickup making a right turn.
Police say a teen relative with the boy tried to protect him and was also struck, suffering minor injuries.
According to police, the woman driving the pickup had a license that was medically suspended.
Greenville Public Safety director Mark Reiss says police are investigating the crash, and Montcalm County prosecutors will review police reports.
Reiss says it's a "very sad and unfortunate set of circumstances."
The boy's name was not released, pending notification of his family.
