West Michigan officials kicked off a local version of a statewide safety campaign this morning.

Officers from Grand Valley State University’s campus police, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan Office of Highway Planning spoke Friday morning at GVSU’sAllendale Campus.

It’s part of the statewide ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign, which runs through Labor Day Weekend.

More than 150 law enforcement agencies across the state participate in the annual operation, putting additional officers on the road to look out for drunk drivers.

Officials say they want to emphasize the important of safety behind the wheel, especially ahead of the holiday weekend - and as students return to campus.
