As student-athletes across West Michigan prepare to return to the field, court and track for the fall sports season, the professionals responsible for their safety are preparing for the moments they hope never happen.
Life EMS Ambulance, in partnership with the Sports Medicine team at University of Michigan Health-West, will host its annual “Emergency Preparedness in the Sports Environment” training. That training will be offered Thursday in two sessions.
The training brings together more than 40 athletic trainers from high schools, colleges, and universities across West Michigan for hands-on emergency-response training.
Mark Meijer, President and founder of Life EMS Ambulance, says in a news release, “This training allows athletic trainers, physicians and EMS professionals to practice together, refine emergency response plans and strengthen the teamwork that helps deliver the best possible care for student-athletes."
Participants will review best practices and participate in simulation exercises covering a variety of emergency scenarios.
