Cherry Health launches virtual dentistry to expand access to care

Thanks to a recent grant from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Cherry Health is piloting a new “teledentistry” program

With the launch of its new “teledentistry” service, patients at Cherry Health’s Southside Health Center on Kalamazoo Avenue along with its Muskegon Recovery Center on Oak, will be able to access care they couldn’t before.

Here’s Dr. Bryan Wazbinski, Chief Dental Officer with Cherry Health.

“I know teledentistry is kind of a weird word, but what it really is it’s a virtual dental consult, so patients that are already accessing some of our other services at these locations, now have access to our dental services. So, it’s a real time conversation with one of our Cherry Health dentists.”

And Dr. Wazbinski says the hope is for the program to expand.

“We do hope as this takes off to offer at some of our other locations, and maybe, big picture, I can see this being expanded to even non-Cherry Health patients, so anybody that is looking to talk to a dentist about a health concern.”

Cherry Health’s teledentistry service kicked off earlier this month and it offers basic oral health evaluations for issues such as pain, swelling or infection, or to discuss specific concerns.

Those who qualify can call Cherry Health to set up a virtual appointment.
