The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services or DIFS is reminding consumers that most health plans must cover breast cancer screenings at no cost under the Affordable Care Act .
DIFS Director Anita Fox says in a news release,“In Michigan, more than 9,700 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2025 and an estimated 1,370 people will die of the disease,” she adds, “Early detection saves lives, and screenings are covered by most insurance plans without out-of-pocket costs. DIFS stands ready to help Michiganders get the most out of their health insurance and reduce barriers that may discourage them from seeking health care.”
Michiganders who need health insurance will be able to enroll during the Health Insurance Marketplace Open Enrollment period that begins on Nov. 1.
