Older Driver Safety Awareness Week started Monday

Older Driver Safety Awareness Week runs until December 6th. And Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is sharing resources provided through the Michigan Department of State (MDOS) for residents to stay educated and safe behind the wheel at all ages.

Secretary of State Benson says in a news release, quote, “As drivers age, it becomes important to prioritize safe driving strategies,” “Older Driver Safety Awareness Week is a great way to highlight available resources to help aging drivers continue to enjoy their independence while staying safe on the road.” End quote.

The Safe Drivers Smart Options website, Michigan.gov/AgingDriver, contains resources and information to educate, empower, and guide older drivers and their families to plan for their safe transportation and embrace the value of driving and mobility as essential to staying engaged in the community.

Recognized for excellence by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators, the website was developed through a collaboration of public and private agencies to promote safety and mobility for Michigan's aging adults. Resources include: Older driver self-assessment driving tools and videos as well as links to driver refresher courses for older drivers and strategies for initiating conversations about when and how to transition to a non-driving lifestyle among other resources.

That website again is Michigan.gov/AgingDriver.
