Donors joined West Michigan Sports Commission executives in breaking ground on a new $13 million expansion of the Meijer Sports Complex on 10 Mile Road in Rockford.
On acreage south of the existing complex, the expansion includes the Alro Steel Championship Field for youth, amateur and collegiate softball, two new baseball/softball diamonds, 20 pickleball courts, a new playground, more parking and a new concession building with restrooms and other upgrades.
Meijer’s Vice President of Communications and Community Engagement Ray Hancart says the project continues to focus on being inclusive.
2426 “This complex has the power to bring athletes of all ages and abilities together to compete and grow and we are just thrilled to be a part of that.”
Meijer Sports Complex opened in 2014 with eight baseball and softball fields, the Devos Family Championship Field and Nate Hurwitz Miracle League Field.
The expansion is expected to accommodate 200 more teams annually and generate an additional $1 million in visitor spending in the area.
It’s expected to be finished by October 2025.
