The plan is out for transportation projects for the next 26 years in the Grand Rapids metro area. Next, the council wants public comment about it

The Grand Valley Metropolitan Council has drafted its 2050 Transportation Plan which includes projects and investment priorities for the next 26 years.

The council is required to update the draft every four years, addressing all aspects of the system including pavement, bridges, traffic congestion, safety, passenger rail, air travel and public transit.

It’s projected that although more than $777 million in federal funding is expected, it will take a minimum of $3.68 billion to address needs.

The plans have been developed over the last 19 months beginning with a public survey in the fall of 2022.

Now the council is hosting two open houses and a virtual public meeting to present the plans, answer questions and gather comments from the public.

The open houses are both on Wednesday April 10 at the Rapid Central Station on Cesar Chavez Avenue in Grand Rapids. The first runs 2-3:30pm and the second 5-6:30.

The virtual meeting is Thursday from 10:30 – noon on Zoom.
