The City of Grand Rapids has awarded $9.6 million in funding for community development and neighborhood investments.

The city approved the disbursementof funds on Tuesday.

The city says funds come from various federal funding sources that will go toward achieving two plans administered by the city’s Community Development Department. That includes the Neighborhood Investment Plan and the HOME Investment Partnerships – American Rescue Plan (HOME-ARP) Allocation Plan.

More than two dozen organizations and programs will receive funding for projects and services that support a variety of neighborhood investments.

These include funds for leadership and civic engagement, public safety, rental assistance, homeless prevention, housing services and more.

In a press release, Connie Bohatch, a senior managing director for the city’s community services said the funding will help meet the needs of low-income and unhoused populations in Grand Rapids.

“I thank all who are stepping up to provide these much-needed services. Together, we are assisting our neighbors and improving the quality of life in Grand Rapids.”

Amplify GR, Community Rebuilders, the ICCF Nonprofit Housing Corporation, the Salvation Army and multiple neighborhood associations, are among the recipients.
