President Biden holds up a semiconductor chip during a meeting with lawmakers to discuss U.S. supply chain shortages

The act will direct tens of billions of dollars toward boosting semiconductor chip production

President Joe Biden took part Tuesday in an event celebrating the recent passage of the CHIPS Act in Michigan.

The act will direct tens of billions of dollars toward boosting semiconductor chip production in the U-S.

Biden calls the chips the “building blocks” of the modern economy.

The president appeared at the event near Saginaw via a livestream feed from the White House.

A positive COVID test forced Biden to cancel his plans to attend the event in person.
