AAA says two years’ worth of pent-up demand is about to be unleashed this summer. According to a new quarterly survey from The Auto Club Group, Michiganders are at the highest comfort level for traveling in almost a year and one of the highest levels since the pandemic began.
AAA says summer travel looks to be in full swing territory with traveler comfort at its highest level in almost a year. In its latest survey the Auto Club Group cites the top reasons for the increased comfort level: those reasons include, “people having received their COVID-19 vaccinations; they’re less afraid about the dangers of the virus and the belief the risk of contracting the virus is the same where ever they go.”
Debbie Haas, Vice President of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group, says quote, “We’re hearing from travelers who are eager to return to a sense of normalcy, and it appears that time is finally here,” end quote.
A recent AAA report revealed there are twice as many bookings of flights, hotels, cruises and rental cars for the 2022 Memorial Day weekend, compared to last year’s holiday. AAA expects that momentum to carry into the summer travel season.
They report over 1 in 2 or 54% of Michigan residents will take at least one trip in 2022. With the largest share (57%) planning to travel this summer.
