World Food Day is fast approaching on October 16th. And with that, personal-finance website, WalletHub just released its report on 2021’s Best Foodie Cities in America. As it turns out, Grand Rapids made the top 20.

Generally speaking, the term “foodie” applies to those who love gourmet dining.

But the foodie culture is a lot more than that according to experts. WalletHub released its report on the Best Foodie Cities in America and Grand Rapids scored very well.

Here’s WalletHub Analyst, Jill Gonzalez, to fill us in.

“Grand Rapids ranked 17th overall, so it’s following others cities in the top 20, Like Portland, San Francisco, LA so it’s up there with other good cities. One of the reasons it’s up there, is affordability. The cost of groceries is low, so if you’re cooking at home, that’s good news. Restaurants are good cost too. “

WalletHub says the foodie lifestyle can be quite expensive, considering restaurant prices rose over five percent between July of 2020 and July 2021. Affordability is just one of about 30 metrics used to determine the best cities.

“We looked at 29 different metrics, so apart from affordability, things like grocery cost and restaurant meal costs. We also looked at restaurants per capita, We looked at diversity, healthy food options, things like farmer markets, all of these different types of things.”
