Kentwood City Commission race: Incumbent falls as two challengers will square off in November

Polling station
Hilary Farrell

In the race for Kentwood’s City Commission in the 2nd Ward, incumbent Tom McKelvey lost in Tuesday’s primary to challengers Jessica Ann Tyson and Dan VanderMolen.

Tyson received the most support at roughly 43% of votes cast, but did not garner over 50---meaning, she and VanderMolen will face each other in a runoff in November to represent Kentwood’s eastern half.
