Three Republicans face of in Michigan’s 28th District Senate primary. WGVU’s Patrick Center profiles the field.
Republican Mark Huizenga served three terms in the Michigan House. Prior to his six years at the Michigan Capitol, Huizenga served as Mayor of the City of Walker. He says he’s the most practical and well-equipped Republican Senate candidate.
“People refer to me as the ‘Nerd in the House’ because I take a strong evidence-based position on the work that I do.”
He chaired a special committee investing how the state spends money on IT. Five bills emerged improving how the state allocates dollars. Huizenga is Chair of the Higher Education Subcommittee on Appropriations.
He says understanding the data and numbers and creating policy for the long game for making the state better is critical. Huizenga explains he’s willing to meet with supporters and detractors explaining how he reaches decisions.
The Michigan primary is Tuesday, August 3rd.
