Fishermen safe after getting stuck on Saginaw Bay ice floe

Authorities say fishermen are safe after getting stranded on an ice floe in Saginaw Bay. Bay County Sheriff Troy Cunningham says the fishermen were about a quarter mile into the bay on Thursday when the ice broke loose. Rescuers responded and an airboat was the first to reach them. No one was injured.

Ice fisherman David Sian tells WJRT-TV that ice conditions were deteriorating and they "saw the ground moving under us" as the ice moved. Sian says two people jumped into the cold water, which was a few feet deep, and waded to shore. He and others waited for help to arrive.

Authorities are urging people to use caution on the ice, since recent warmer temperatures have left it unstable in many places.
