Along the lakeshore in Muskegon’s 91st House District both Republicans and Democrats held primaries. Greg VanWoerkom who served as U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga’s District Director won a decisive victory over Republican challenger Alan Jager. This is VanWoerkom’s first time running for political office.

“I think the results showed that my message is resounding with folks talking about Muskegon’s comeback and Michigan’s comeback and building on the policies that have gotten us here rather than going in reverse.”

For Democrats voting in the 91st House district primary Tanya Cabala was the choice over Andy O’Riley.

"We're going to be moving ahead with our agenda which is affordable, good paying jobs support for the public schools and protecting the Great Lakes. All priorities that we don't feel have a good place at the table in Lansing."

Cabala is a longtime White Hall City Council member, teacher and community activist. She's the former director of a regional Great Lakes environmental organization, Cabala says she wants a prosperous Michigan for every resident.
