Wayne Rourke is the Michigan Labor Market Information director. He says the job market remains stable as Michigan made modest monthly gains that have added up over the past year. He also says the jobs market appears ready to cool a little.
“We’re not seeking as many job openings as we used to. It’s still high. It’s still good. But the speed at which things have been coming back to a new normal has started to slow down a little bit it appears. But who knows what the future holds?”
Michigan’s January unemployment rate is slightly above the national average of three-point-seven percent. The most jobs growth in 2023 was in schools, government and health services.
