That support would include access to a support person and a lawyer during interviews.
Democratic state Representative Julie Brixie is a bill co-sponsor. She says investigations can be re-traumatizing for survivors.
“We need to hold predators accountable for criminal sexual conduct, but we can’t do that if our justice system is chasing out survivors who are trying to come forward. They deserve sensitive care, respect and to be offered dignity at every stage of the reporting process.”
Brixie says some advocates are concerned about some exceptions, the bill would make to that right to having support present.
Sponsors say the legislation is likely to change before it sees a final vote in the House.
